On this night, Interseed
was chosen to open up the bill. This is an important gig
for Interseed. This is a young, local band which has
played The Pound before, winning a "battle of the bands"
contest and bringing with them to the gig, a sizeable
contingent of family and fans. They did not disappoint
and steamrolled through an impressive set. There’s a lot
to like about Interseed. They show a rare ability for
younger bands to take their music seriously. All of the
band members have chops, meaning they can flat out play
their instruments. The vocalist is equally as adept in
having a clear singing voice but can shift to growling.
That’s a good combination to have.
As expected, a mosh pit was generated and an
enthusiastic audience response almost immediately into
Interseed’s first song. Out of curiosity, I listened to
their recorded material available at their web site
prior to the gig. It’s strong stuff -- polished and
ready for label promotion. As far as what style of music
they play, I would call it a mixture of influences.
However, in today’s market, they would fall under the
Gothenburg mantle where so many bands exist. This would
be my only critique of Interseed’s style. It’s a tough
row to hoe in that market right now and I’m not hearing
a whole lot of difference in what they do and what bands
like Soilwork or Scar Symmetry (for example) are doing.
Interseed does it very well. They are passionate, hungry
about their playing, get the crowds into it but I wonder
where they can go with it in such a crowded market.
Locally, I feel they will continue to make a name for
themselves, either individually or as part of the same
band. |
